Suky Thompson has a proven ability to get projects done to a high standard on time and on budget and specialises in heritage, recreation, and sustainable development on Banks Peninsula. She holds a postgraduate diploma (with distinction) in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management from Lincoln University, and currently manages the Rod Donald Banks Peninsula Trust, an organisation focussed on conservation and outdoor recreation in the area.

Suky's career started in the computer industry in the UK, where she progressed from systems programmer to software consultant. She arrived in New Zealand in 1989 and stepped up to project manage the successful development and implementation of major New Zealand government systems including the Ministry of Education's "Tomorrow's Schools" and the Department of Internal Affairs leading edge Passport Issuing system.

Suky built up an extensive knowledge of Banks Peninsula and network of local contacts through actively supporting many community groups, serving as an elected representative on the Akaroa/Wairewa Community Board, and running a tourism business specialising in Guided Walks, while raising her family in the area.

In 2006 Suky founded Peninsula Projects offering her services in project management, research and analysis on a professional basis. Since then she has worked on projects work with organisations such as Christchurch City Council, Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism and Christchurch and Canterbury Development to make a significant contribution to sustainable development on Banks Peninsula. For the past three years she has managed the Rod Donald Banks Peninsula Trust, and also developed its comprehensive mapping products based on her earlier work. In 2011-12 she took time out to study at Lincoln University and has recently been invited to join its LEaP research centre as a fellow.
